BALMORAL WALL LIGHT CASE STUDY

–  Process improvement, design for manufacture, reduced lead times.

Hector Finch Lighting first approached Pegrex two years ago with a view to improving the methods of manufacture on some of their lighting products. In particular they were seeking to improve quality and reduce the lead times of some of their larger volume items. The idea was to apply more ‘production’ rather than ‘craft’ processes to the manufacture of the lights, without losing the hand finished quality associated with their product.

Pegrex was ideally placed to meet this requirement due to the combination of in house processes such as CNC turret punching and press brake work, combined with traditional silver-smithing skills. In addition the use of subcontract operations aided the process of streamlining the production methods.

The immediate focus of attention was the Balmoral Wall light which had presented a number of problems in both fabrication and finishing, as well as extended lead times.

A review of resources confirmed that existing CNC turret punch & press brake capacity when combined with photo-etching would provide a much simpler method of manufacture, improved lead times and more consistent quality.

“Pegrex have achieved our objective of improving the production methods of many of our products. We were particularly impressed with  Pegrex’s methodical approach to product improvement”
